8th July:

It happens to be my birthday today.  And I am one of the few lucky people who shares his birthday with his mother. So, its always a day of additional celebrations for me! The day started with phone calls and messages as usual and I would love to believe, that for a few seconds, the incoming traffic on my phone must have contributed its bit to the already congested network this monsoon season! Being from a religious Hindu family, you are taught to visit temple on the day you are born.

After the normal to do’s which one does in a temple i.e standing in queues, offering Prasad, asking God to fulfill some selfish desires which in my case are tad too selfish and so outlandish that many a times i am forced to think if the gods make a hurdle and wait for me to pray so that they may have a hearty laugh!! I mean, come on, who pokes the Big Guy on a regular basis for such a wide spectrum of wishes ranging from- “Please Bajrang Bali make me win the Badminton game today” to “Hanumanjee, if i am not able to build an aircraft, i am not talking to you again!!” Nonetheless, after reading out the usual wish list in front of god (this time Sai Baba), I came out with my friend (Chaitanya aka Mikku). And then i saw him…

I wonder what is his wish...

He was not begging. Nor was he doing anything. Just sitting and staring into vacant space. I guess he was mentally unstable. Change and rotting food all around him. Besides him was a man who could not see. And now i just wonder what would he want if granted a WISH…would i be able to fulfill any of his wishes…and suddenly doing something so that nobody on our streets have to sit down and beg, has been added to my ever-growing wish-list.
